In Germany it is called Buß- und Bettag.
The ChurchYear is ending next Sunday in our Protestant church, and the day is called Eternity Sunday. Ewigkeitssonntag, or Totensonntag. It is a day of remembrance of the ones who passed away this year. We go to the graveyards and put down flowers or just stand and think.Only after this contemplative time the Advent`s Time will begin. Bazaars, Christmas markets, candles and Glögg.
It will be a hectic time.
But before this last quiet Sunday comes, we celebrate, if you can call it that, this Day of Repentance.
Sometimes it helps to just get up and change your perspective.
Am I content with this life I am leading?Is it a life that is worthwhile, happy, fulfilled? Am I acting the way I would like to be treated myself? Life is short, only three whole days till Eternity Sunday. What if...?
I like to think that kindness is the best. That no matter how busy we are, or how stricken with our own affairs,
a little chat over the fence, or a cup of tea with friends, or a handwritten card
can make us breathe deeply and smile.
Even if the flowers look a little shattered at this time of year, and a fallen brown leaf is spoiling the picture, life is still good and happy, and I can add my share. I think of the dead friends I have lost. I still miss Tessa`s blog and her spirit and wicked sense of humour. But I cherish the friends I have found here in blogland.

Dear Amanda, you don`t have to be reminded! Your whole life speaks of joy in life and shared encouragement and kindness. I am so glad we have met!
My dear Lori, sister in spirit, the same goes for you! Your own stories and pictures and knitted teapot cozies and clothes are all soaked with love and joy and kindness. I am not telling you anything new.
What I think is that these simple "truths" which we all try to share on our blogs (and that IS what blogging is about, right?)are THERE all the time. They are surrounding everybody and just need to be picked. If you look up and see the next person in the queue, and give them a smile, it will brighten their day. It is as simple as that. Not even much effort needed, just a looking up.
This is all good. Life is way too short to hold onto negative feelings. Repentance, prayer day, and eternity Sunday are all such positive things!
I would love to be able to enjoy a cup of tea with you. I like the way you see the world and your kindness shines through your blog.
